ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Anna Sidana is a San Francisco based large-scale oil painter. Her art explores an emotional connection with complex family histories through hazy childhood memories, abstraction, and symbolism, transcending the canvas to convey myriad emotions.
Searching for a connection with her culture, she stumbled upon childhood memories of pomegranates and playing in the cotton fields of her family farm in Rajasthan, India, which led her to make pomegranates and cotton the subject matter of her art. She takes a contemporary twist on landscape painting, blurring the traditional horizon and preferring to keep the viewer in a fluid and lyrical psychological space that is not a specific location or place.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
After a 25+ year career in technology, Sidana decided to become a full-time artist. Today, her work can be seen locally and internationally. Exhibition highlights include the de Young Museum in San Francisco, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, Burning Man in Nevada, Times Square in New York City, and the London Art Biennale. In addition to her art practice, Anna serves on the board of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program and ZERO1.
