Laura Smith Blair paints the California landscape through representation and abstraction. Her subjects include the coast and rolling hills, where she grew up and now lives and works.
Using bright colors and bold shapes, the artist presents a vivid yet realistic representation of the landscape, interrupted by more abstract horizontal lines, giving a sense of movement. These abstract disruptions convey the artist’s sense of confusion and feelings of unrest when observing the changes in the California Landscape through development and the human impact on the environment.
