ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Creating work that tells a story is what I’m most interested in. In my current mixed media paintings I focus on incorporating up-cycled materials. By repurposing and collaging vintage postcards, paper and images into my art, I hope to give each piece visual depth and a connection to the past, bringing a fresh perspective to the nostalgic beauty of these forgotten treasures.
The Sojourn Series grew out of my desire to address what we were dealing with through COVID. With travel restricted, I obsessed on the very act. A sojourn - a short stay somewhere or a temporary residence – became the metaphorical connection for these iconic female figures. By bringing a fresh perspective to their beauty and importance, I wanted to honor and celebrate their legacies and the differences they made in history through their travels – whether literally, ideologically, and conceptually.
